How to Save Money on Lunch at Work Without Compromising on Quality Food
It’s astonishing how quickly you can blow a significant amount of money on work lunches. To figure out exactly how much cash you spend each week on work lunches, you do not need to be very adept at maths.
How about spending some of the money you normally spend on eating out for lunch to buy some groceries so that you might bring a packed lunch to work? You can save a considerable amount by packing your daily lunch; it does not need to be drab or dry sandwich as you will see.

Try these suggestions below if you wish to save a bit of money while also having more fun at lunch:
Carry Lunch From Home
The easiest way to save money on lunch is to bring a packed lunch with you. The lunch hour is usually a busy one. And at that time, the thing you would never wish to do is stand in a queue at your neighbourhood burger joint or, worse yet, battle the crowds at your preferred fast-food restaurant.
A plastic box and freezer packs are all you need to carry. These are readily available in any supermarket or online (where we suggest getting them because they are less expensive). Additionally, if you don’t want your coworkers to see gross old forks lying on your workstation the whole day, consider using disposable cutlery.
Make a Food Plan
If you organise your meals and prepare certain lunch recipes on the weekends, work lunches may be a breeze. Consider a few items that are multipurpose, so you can purchase all of them in a single trip to the store for meals. Items may include fresh herbs, Greek yogurt, olive oil, sesame seeds, extra veggies, and canned salmon. Make meals for the whole week as soon as you arrive home—wash and chop the vegetables, boil the eggs, etc.
Find easy lunch ideas to help you decide what you will eat each day and how you will prepare it. A delicious meal already packaged and prepared for departure is far more likely to be consumed.
For a little food for thought, here are 5 easy to make healthy lunch ideas:
Monday: Whole grain bread sandwich with sliced turkey and avocado, lettuce, and tomato.
Tuesday: Mixed greens salad with grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, sliced almonds, and avocado.
Wednesday: Whole grain pita stuffed with hummus, roasted vegetables, and feta cheese.
Thursday: Quinoa and black bean bowl with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and lime vinaigrette.
Friday: Sushi roll with brown rice, vegetables, and avocado.

Shop Every Week
Let’s face it. There are several healthy lunch ideas, but you often skip them because you can’t keep up with them.
You didn’t pack gluten-free food, so instead of sticking to your diet plan, you buy anything from the sidebar menu. It’s the same reason why you skip a visit to the gym, because you have forgotten your exercise gear.
Don’t undermine your newly found dedication to homemade food by failing to plan ahead. Schedule a weekly trip to the local supermarket and keep it up. You will be surprised at how long you were able to avoid it after you developed this practice.

I currently spend about £35 a week on food, that includes breakfasts, lunches and dinners (I gym everyday so eat on average 8 meals) By spending about 4 hours on a Sunday cooking, I can prep all of my meals for the week following a relatively cheap shop.
So that pans out to about 5 pound a day. 4 of those meals are while I’m at work, so let’s say that’s £2.50 a day, over 5 days at work = £12.50. Working 52 weeks a year pans out to around £650 a year on lunch at work. (excluding all of the times we treat ourselves to burgers)
If I were to go out and buy the equivalent of those meals from shops or restaurants near work, looking at the cheapest option, an average day would look like this:
scrambled eggs – £2.50, sandwich £3.00, chicken salad £4.00, Chilli & Rice £5.00. Total = £14.50 a day = £72.50 a week = £3,770 a year.
£650 is 17.24% of the potential £3,770 if i were to buy meals from work.
Obviously it all depends on what you buy, how much you eat, but hopefully this is indicative of the benefits and cost savings of buying a prepping meals at home.

Additionally, search for limited-time sales… If you choose to eat at a less busy hour, you can receive a 10% – 15% discount.

Go for Largely Homemade Meals
Think about bringing some lunch and purchasing the rest if you enjoy the tradition of eating lunch out. For instance, you may prepare lunch for the picnic and then opt for frozen yogurt on returning to work. Fresh bread or a plastic pot of hummus can also be purchased from a local food market and brought to the field with your picnic.
It might not be possible or even desirable to eliminate all your meals and drinks. If you continue to enjoy lunch out, establish a limit on the amount you may spend every week and how frequently. Reducing your workweek from five to three or even two days can result in significant financial savings.
Carry a Quality Water Bottle
Quality water can help you stay refreshed and save cash. Carrying a water bottle may help you remain hydrated, save money, and produce less waste.
Below are a few reasons why:
-
Carrying a water bottle around can help you stay healthy. A minimum of 8 glasses of water per day is recommended. Consider buying a reusable water bottle to stay on track if you are having trouble remembering to drink the necessary amount each day.
-
Using a water bottle instead of stopping at the shop or a coffee machine during the day will spare you energy and money and lessen your carbon emissions.
